Genesis 4: 6-8
6 Then the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? 7 If you do what is right, will you not
be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door;
it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.”
8 Now Cain said to his brother Abel, “Let’s go out to the field.”
While they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.
·
It
is amazing how we go through life with so much favour from God and some men
can’t live with it. Adam and Eve had been blessed with two sons and the
prophetic offering was required by God from them.
The scripture tells us that
in the process of time Cain and Abel brought an offering, and God accepted the
offering of Abel, and that of Cain was rejected.
You would
wonder what these offerings meant to God. The cattle upon a thousand hills
belongs to him, God can kill and make alive, there is no searching of His
understanding, but this time, these offerings were outstanding.
As we recognize
it as the “prophetic offering”, the giving from a cheerful heart to God.
The
proclamation that God is our source.
·
This
was lacking in Cain’s offering, he did not give God his best from a cheerful
heart. Cain could not manage the immense favour on his brother’s life, he
became bitter and eventually killed Abel.
Abel should
not have died. He should be protected; he should be properly guided as he is
the representation of God’s mercy to this family. All he needed was knowledge
and how to remain protected from the unknown.
HOW DO WE OVERCOME THE ENEMY OF THE
HOUSEHOLD?
